Our friend Chad Ludwig’s road trip to acquire this Vintage Pyrex Dainty Maid with original box prompted me to research if I could find any original advertisements to pinpoint the exact production dates. Unfortunately, there were no pamphlets or inserts in the box like we find with some of our Pyrex. Photo couretesy of Chad Ludwig.
Dainty-Maid, Incorporated started in 1926 as Mon Docteur Importing Company located in Meriden, Connecticut. As a direct selling company, they focused on feminine hygiene products. In 1937, they changed their name to Dainty-Maid. And in 1953, they moved to Middlefield, Connecticut where they remained until they dissolved in 2004. From the advertisements I found on Newspapers.com during the 1960s they remained a direct selling company, but they also branched out into appliances such as toasters, skillets, and irons. The Dainty Maid Covered Casserole, as it was marketed, is somewhat of an anomaly in their product line.
The first advertisement appeared in November 1959 in Elder Journal on Thursday, November 26th and The Daily Heral Sunday, November 22nd, Elder News December 8th respectively.
It appears that the coveted Pyrex Dainty Maid was discontinued in the summer of 1960 if the clearance price is any indication as advertised in The Salt Lake Tribune Saturday, July 16th and Friday, July 22nd. If you have any other advertisements to share regarding the Dainty Maid Covered Casserole, feel free to reach out to me.
